Enjoy a guided hike through the historic Iowa Hill mine site with a local expert. Along the way see authentic mining artifacts and interpretive signs that tell the story of how gold was extracted from the surrounding hills. Visit a restored miners’ boarding house (c. 1868) and experience life as a miner in Breckenridge’s early days.
This hike is approximately 1.5 miles round-trip and lasts 1.5 hours. For our guests visiting from lower elevations, this is a manageable hike if you have acclimated to 10,000 feet. We do not suggest you hike with us if you are feeling symptoms of altitude sickness.
Proper footwear is required for participation: waterproof hiking boots or snow boots
This hike is offered year round as a regular hike in the spring, and a snow show hike in the winter.

Tickets can be purchased online, at the Welcome Center or by calling 970-453-9767 x2. Online tickets purchased after 6pm on Sunday cannot be verified. If after 6pm, please call and leave a message for availability.
For online purchases, we will enter your information in our reservation system when your order is received. We do not issue paper tickets.
Hike begins at the Iowa Hill Trail Head northwest of downtown Breckenridge. Public Transportation: from the bus transit station, take the Airport Road route and get off a the Public Works stop.
From the Breckenridge Welcome Center (203 South Main Street) travel north on Main Street. At the round-about continue north on Highway 9. At the second stoplight, turn left onto Valley Brook Road and then turn right onto Airport Road. Travel 0.25 miles and the trail head is on the left directly after the Public Works facilities. Parking is available in the dirt lot.
Cancellations are required 24 hours prior to the scheduled start time of the hike to receive a refund.
Minimum Guest Requirement: We do not have a minimum guest requirement; however, we do have a maximum guest limit to ensure the enjoyment of the tour.
Weather Policy: We will cancel a guided tour or hike for the following reasons: 1) if there is thunder and lightning in the area 10 minutes before a tour is scheduled to start, and 2) if the weather forecast predicts the temperature will be below zero degrees at the start of the tour. In each of these cases, a full refund will be given to guests. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
Pet Policy: Pets are not allowed on the snowshoes hikes, with the exception of service animals.
Please note that smoking (including e-cigarettes) is not permitted on any hike and we reserve the right to request you leave the hike if you are smoking.
